Project Management & Internal Development

Engineering is entering a new era.

AI, automation, and software are rapidly changing how engineering work gets done. But in most engineering organizations, the reality is still fragmented: valuable knowledge is locked in spreadsheets, scripts, documents, models, and individual experts. Critical workflows depend on manual checks, disconnected tools, and repetitive project work. AI has huge potential, but without the right platform it remains hard to apply safely, reliably, and at scale in real engineering processes. That is exactly what VIKTOR is built for.

Now we are looking for a Technical Consultant who wants to work at the intersection of engineering, AI, software, and client impact.

The role

You come from engineering. You have spent a few years doing real project work and you know exactly how fragmented the toolchain is in most organizations. You understand the daily reality: switching between systems that do not talk to each other, rebuilding the same calculations project after project, and watching knowledge disappear when someone leaves the organization.

Now you want to do something with that understanding beyond delivering one project after another.

As a Technical Consultant at VIKTOR, you work directly with engineering firms, contractors, and asset owners such as BAM, Heijmans, and Arcadis. You get into their workflows, find the real bottlenecks, and help them build tools that connect systems, automate repetitive calculations, and scale expertise across teams and projects. The results are measurable: engineering hours saved, material use reduced, project costs lowered, quality improved. The applications you help build run on real projects, including major infrastructure, offshore wind, and industrial construction.

What matters most in this role is that you understand how engineers actually work: the tools they use, the integrations that fail, the workarounds that have built up over years, and the workflows that nobody has ever properly documented. That understanding is what allows you to identify where automation genuinely helps and where it does not.

The role also requires Python skills, not at software developer level, but enough to build and adapt engineering applications on the VIKTOR platform. If you have used Python to automate calculations or connect data between systems, that is the right foundation.

You also feed what you learn back into VIKTOR. Because you are close to clients and close to the actual engineering work, you see things the product team cannot see from the inside. That perspective is valuable and you are expected to use it.

What you’ll do

  • Build and implement engineering automation tools together with client teams, translating fragmented workflows into connected, scalable applications on the VIKTOR platform
  • Advise clients on how to structure workflows, connect their existing tools, apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) safely, and scale their internal knowledge across projects and teams
  • Identify where automation and AI can create real value inside client organizations and contribute to growing those opportunities
  • Translate what you see in the field into clear product feedback that improves the platform
  • Keep projects on track in terms of planning, scope, and communication

Why this role matters

This is not a traditional engineering consultancy role.

You will not spend your time only producing reports, calculations, or project deliverables. You will help engineers change the way they work. You will help leading engineering organizations move from manual processes, isolated tools, and AI experiments to scalable AI powered engineering workflows with proper governance: version control, access management, and auditability built in. You will work with Python, automation, AI, simulation, software integrations, and domain knowledge to build applications that have real impact on real projects.

At VIKTOR, you are close to the client, close to the product, and close to the future of engineering. This role is for engineers who want to use their background to build something that has a measurable impact on how the industry works.

At VIKTOR, most of the team comes from engineering. We have worked in the same organizations and on the same types of projects as our clients. That background is what makes the difference.

Your profile
  • You have 2 to 5 years of engineering experience in construction, infrastructure, or a related discipline, and you understand the workflows and tool challenges our clients deal with every day.

  • You know what it is like to work with disconnected systems and manual handovers, and you want to help fix that problem at scale

  • You are curious about where AI and automation are taking engineering and want to help make that shift happen in practice

  • You connect what you learn at clients back to VIKTOR, translating field insights into clear and actionable product feedback

  • You have a working knowledge of Python and are willing to develop that further. Experience using Python to automate calculations or connect engineering tools is a strong advantage.

  • You enjoy working with people and build long-term relationships that clients genuinely value, and communicate clearly

  • You are based in the Netherlands and speak fluent English. Dutch is strongly preferred.

Your benefits
  • You work alongside a team in which most people have an engineering background. When you raise a workflow problem or a client challenge, the people around you understand what you mean.

  • You contribute to a platform used by engineering firms across the world. The impact of your work is visible and measurable.

  • You work in a flat structure where decisions are made quickly and you stay close to the work that matters

  • You own your development. A 1,000 euro annual budget is yours to spend on courses, conferences, or tools that help you grow. Your team lead is there to support you, not to define the path for you.

  • You get 28 vacation days, a 5% pension contribution, free gym access, hybrid working, and an office in Rotterdam with a clear view of the city.

Why does our team like this job

"As a consultant you are in contact with a lot of different people. You advise clients on how to build apps, gather product feedback during your projects or you're building a nice app yourself. These projects vary greatly in scope: one day you could be working on structural calculations for an immersed tunnel and the next day you're working on a bridge monitoring project. This versatility makes sure that you keep learning new things."
