## Better risk analysis with the Bayesian Update

What does your own experience with your assets tell you about their performance? Are they underperforming, or not? Evaluating the lifetime of your assets might be difficult when the number of asset failures are still limited. That is why, instead of going off of your experience only, you can also use the statistical method of the Bayesian Update. 

The Bayesian Update in Prespector helps you relate your gathered failure records to your initial assumption about the expected lifetime of the assets. With improved estimations of the failure rates at hand, you can plan your preventive maintenance more efficiently to reduce cost and increase availability. 

*The Bayesian Update is a proven method for combining your failure information with generic data from manufacturers of public sources, like OREDA, EIREDA, and MIL-HDBK-117. The method is described in the Dutch guideline PGS-4 (Publicatie Reeks Gevaarlijke stoffen, 2005) 'Methods for Determining and Processing Probabilities'.

### Analysize and recalculate

When your data is uploaded, you can use the app to analyze specific assets or asset types. It is also possible to recalculate all failure rates of assets you have information on at once and download an Excel sheet of the newly calculated rates after. Use this new failure probability to update your risk analysis (e.g. FMECA or HAZOP) and preventive maintenance plans.

## Centralize and organize CPT's

GeoTools helps you centralize, interpret, inspect, modify, and use your project’s CPT collection, all within one app! Whatever your project is about, there are some aspects of working with CPT’s that reccur each time. CPT’s form the basis for many different calculations. They have to be interpreted, that is to say translated into a soil profile. The soil profile can then form the basis for various calculations, e.g. pile foundations calculations, dyke stability calculations, sheet piling calculations and much more.

The GeoTools application is web-based, so whenever you upload CPT’s to it, anyone that has internet access and is invited to the app can work with the CPT’s. You can select what type of classification method is used, which includes the standard Robertson method, a fully customisable Table method based on user-provided soil characteristics, and even a Machine Learning algorithm developed by CRUX. On the level of a single CPT, you can inspect the created soil layout and the measurement signals in the file. You can also download/upload .xml files of CPT’s, as a first step towards being compatible with the Bureau Registratie Ondergrond (BRO).

## Customize and interpret CPT's 

During every step of the process, VIKTOR will automate processes for you but you always have the option to modify or update parts of the project as you like. To help you decide on whether or not you are happy with the interpretation or other aspects, data is visualised in lots of different ways. Be it on a map, a 3D view of CPT’s, single or comparison plots of measurement data and soil interpretations. Finally, there is a PDF view that draws your CPT’s based on your specifications (paper size, scale, etc.), giving you a way to include the CPT’s into any report right away.

After the interpretation is to your liking, you can group CPT’s together in what is called a section. You do so by drawing a line on your mapview and all CPT’s that fall into the (adjustable) region of this line can be combined into a section. Within a section, you can work towards actually using the CPT’s. 

### D-Foundations 

A straightforward example is the export to D-Foundations, which will result in a D-Foundations file that has all your CPT data already loaded into it, so that all you have to do is create your piles. 

### D-Settlement

Then there is an export to D-Settlement. Before making this export, VIKTOR helps you create a longitudonal (2D, interpolated) soil layout. To do so, you can first look at a visualization of all CPT’s in the section projected along the line that section is based on. A connection is made in the GeoTools with the Algemeen Hoogtebestand Nederland (AHN), which can be requested by VIKTOR to draw the height along the line in the plot. This visualisation gives you a good starting point to see which guide layers should be used for the longitudonal profile. After determining these guide layers and transferring them to a table automatically (which you can again fully modify and adjust as you see fit), the 2D profile can be visualised. Happy with the result? Export it to D-Settlement directly to continue working on some calculations.

## Predict the impact of (sheet)pile installations quickly

The VibraCore application is used for vibration predictions and validations. In other words: Predicting or validating the impact of the drive force of a (sheet)pile installation on the surrounding structures based on Dutch regulations. For example, to calculate whether it is safe to drive a pile at a certain location and what impact this has on the surrounding area, more specifically the buildings. 

Normally, analysing soil profiles, calculating the impact force and validating building structures requires a lot of time and different expertises. With VibraCore, you can easily insert all input parameters yourself and let the application do the calculations for you, saving you a lot of valuable resources.

## Impact force calculation in 6 steps

1. **Import CPTs.** Multiple CPTs (GEF files) can be imported simultaneously. These CPTs are automatically parsed and classified using the CEMS Machine Learning model.
2. **Create impact force calculation.** The maximum impact force can be calculated for each CPT for a given criteria. This can be calculated by creating an impact force calculation object. The impact force for each CPT is calculated based on a set of parameters given in this object, which results in an impact force overview that is then visualized on the map.
3. **Inspect CPT.** The CPTs can be inspected prior to or after the impact force calculation. This is done to ensure that the CPT analysis has given/will give reasonable results. 
4. **Define vibration source and building properties.** A vibration validation analysis can be done by defining the region to be analysed, the vibration source parameters, as well as the building properties. The buildings from within a region are obtained by querying the BAG database. Properties can be assigned to buildings by selecting regions for the selected buildings and assigning them given properties. Buildings can also be customized or removed if needed.
5. **Predict and validate results.** The results of the validation are presented in a clear overview that presents the buildings in green and red, with the building either passing (green) or failing (red) according to SBR A norms and standards, based on the assigned attributes of the buildings. If the check fails, the building has an unacceptable risk (according to SBR A) of being damaged by the installation of the piles or sheet piles, and action needs to taken before commencing the installation, such as softening the impact force or reinforcing the building.
6. **Download reports.** For a summary of the calculations, a vibration prediction report can be downloaded. Also, if a list is needed of the addresses of the buildings that fail the vibration validation check, a CSV file can be downloaded with the given addresses, as well as other attributes assigned to the building.


### Input variables

Calculations are based on several input variables, such as soil profile (GEF) analyses, which can easily be uploaded and viewed within the application. The application allows you to determine a region for which the impact is calculated, for example a circle with a diameter of 150 meters. The impact force within this region depends on the location, soil structure, maximum impact force (CUR 166), and pile type that is used. 

### Map view visualizations

The results of the calculations are viewable on the map, with region, location of the pile(s), and buildings within the chosen region visualized. Data for the location of these buildings is all stored in a database. Within the application, you are able to delete or insert buildings manually in case this is necessary, and assign them characteristics, such as floor material, to narrow down the impact force. Within the red section, you see all buildings that exceed the acceptable risk (as determined by SBR A standards). Different coloured sections specify the properties of those buildings in that region. The circles show the boundary where the specific building could be at risk of damage. The risk can be mitigated by reinforcing the building, or damping the impact force blow.

### Downloadable reports

With just the push of a button, you can generate and download reports of the calculations and addresses of buildings within the region that are affected by the vibration source, so you can inform the correct people and take the correct measures where needed.

## A customized solution

The Nuisance application calculates automatically what the noise nuisance of a planned heavy machinery will be in a certain location based of a set of input variables from the machinery library, where all characteristics of every type of construction equipment are defined. Users can simply select the desired equipment and by entering the right coordinates, place it on a location on the map. With that information, the application calculates the sound contours automatically and visualizes them on the map.
