Engineering is entering a new era.

AI, automation, and software are rapidly changing how engineering work gets done. But in most engineering organizations, the reality is still fragmented: valuable knowledge is locked in spreadsheets, scripts, documents, models, and individual experts. Critical workflows depend on manual checks, disconnected tools, and repetitive project work. AI has huge potential, but without the right platform, it remains hard to apply safely, reliably, and at scale in real engineering processes.

That is exactly what VIKTOR is built for.

VIKTOR is the AI-powered application platform for engineering and construction companies. We help engineers turn their expertise, calculations, models, data, documents, simulations, and AI agents into governed applications that can be used across projects, teams, and organisations. With VIKTOR, engineering companies can move beyond isolated tools and experiments — building scalable workflows where engineers, software, and AI work together.

Our platform is used by tens of thousands of engineers worldwide.

Now we are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer who wants to be at the very frontier of that shift.

The role

Most engineers spend their careers inside one organization, one domain, one way of doing things.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at VIKTOR, you operate differently. You are deployed directly into the engineering environment of our clients — embedded in their workflows, sitting with their teams, understanding their problems from the inside. Not as an outsider handing over a solution, but as a technically sharp engineer who earns trust by genuinely understanding the work.

You have a few years of engineering experience and you have started to notice something: the most interesting problems are not always technical. They are organizational, workflow-related, and systemic. Engineers are doing brilliant work, but much of it is slow, manual, disconnected, and impossible to scale. You want to help fix that. And you want to help build the platform that makes it possible at scale.

At VIKTOR, you are the link between the engineering world and the product that is transforming it. The relationships you build, the problems you dig into, and the patterns you recognize in the field flow directly back into how VIKTOR develops, shaping the platform used by thousands of engineers worldwide.

What you'll do

** Implementation engineering** You build AI-powered engineering applications for and together with clients. Using your engineering background and Python skills, you translate domain expertise, calculations, models, documents, simulations, and workflows into scalable VIKTOR applications. You do not just ask what needs to be built — you understand the engineering process, challenge assumptions, and figure out where AI or automation creates real impact. You co-develop with client teams, write Python, connect engineering tools, structure workflows, integrate AI capabilities, and train engineers so they can build and improve applications themselves.

Deep client engagement You get close to the actual engineering work. You understand client workflows from the inside — not just what they tell you in a kick-off meeting, but what is really slowing them down, where knowledge is getting lost, and where today's tools fall short. You advise clients on complex, non-standard engineering challenges. You help them use VIKTOR to automate processes, apply AI safely, scale internal knowledge, and make applications a natural part of daily engineering work. You also join sales conversations to talk engineering — showing what is possible and translating real problems into platform opportunities.

Spotting opportunities Because you are embedded close to the work, you see things that others miss. New use cases, underserved teams, strategic opportunities where AI and automation could unlock real value. You build long-term relationships at client organisations — relationships where you are seen as a trusted partner, not a vendor — and you actively use those relationships to expand VIKTOR's impact and identify new projects.

Product feedback This is what makes this role genuinely different. Your time in the field gives you a perspective that almost no one else at VIKTOR has access to. You see the friction, the workarounds, the unmet needs, and the moments where engineers hesitate to trust new technology. You understand which AI use cases actually matter and which ones are not ready yet. You do not keep those insights to yourself. You translate them into clear, actionable product feedback and work with the VIKTOR team to improve the platform. You help make sure VIKTOR is not just building AI features — but building the platform engineers actually need to use AI safely and effectively.

Project Management & Internal Development You keep your projects running smoothly in terms of planning, scope, budget, and quality. You also invest in your own development and contribute to the knowledge and technical capability of the team.

Why this role matters

This is not a traditional engineering role, and it is not a traditional consultancy role either. You will not spend your career producing reports or repeating the same type of project. You will be at the frontier: helping leading engineering organizations make the shift from manual processes and isolated tools to scalable, AI-powered engineering workflows. You will work with Python, automation, AI, simulation, software integrations, and real domain knowledge, on projects like the world's longest immersed tunnel, offshore wind foundations, and major infrastructure across energy, buildings, and construction. And crucially: what you learn in the field will not stay in the field. Your insights will help shape a platform used by tens of thousands of engineers worldwide. At VIKTOR, you are close to the client, close to the product, and close to the future of engineering. If you want to use your engineering background to help the industry work smarter, faster, and with more impact, this is the role for you.

Your profile
  • You have 2–5 years of engineering experience, so you quickly understand the world our clients operate in and earn their trust

  • You have solid Python skills and the engineering foundation to keep growing technically

  • You are excited by where AI and automation are taking engineering and want to help make that shift happen

  • You are genuinely curious — you dig into problems until you find the real root cause, not just the surface symptom

  • You connect what you learn at clients back to VIKTOR, translating field insights into clear and actionable product feedback

  • You enjoy working with people and build long-term relationships that clients genuinely value

  • You communicate clearly, live in the Netherlands, and speak fluent English — Dutch is strongly preferred

What will you get?
  • An inspiring work environment and an ambitious team

  • We encourage personal development and offer opportunities to deepen or broaden yourself to grow with the company

  • A flat organizational structure, in which taking responsibility and initiative is encouraged

  • An international and dynamic scale up environment where you can make a lot of impact

  • Good employment conditions, 28 vacation days, legendary team activities, gym, flexibility and a cool office with the best view of Rotterdam

Why does our team like this job

"As a consultant you are in contact with a lot of different people. You advise clients on how to build apps, gather product feedback during your projects or you're building a nice app yourself. These projects vary greatly in scope: one day you could be working on structural calculations for an immersed tunnel and the next day you're working on a bridge monitoring project. This versatility makes sure that you keep learning new things."
