What's new in VIKTOR (January 2026)

VIKTOR

by VIKTOR

The start of 2026 brings a new round of updates designed to make your VIKTOR experience better, faster, and easier. This January, we’re introducing improved collaboration in the App Builder, allowing you to work together on apps by adding collaborators, sharing code and conversations at app level, and avoiding edit conflicts with built-in locking. We’re also adding support for Python 3.14 in VIKTOR, delivering better performance, clearer error messages, and more under the hood. On top of that, several SDK improvements make day-to-day development smoother, with enhanced plotting, easier geometry handling, and more convenient file usage. Finally, we invite you to join our Product Vision 2026 webinar, where we’ll share how we think about building AI-powered engineering products that scale. Curious to learn more about these updates? Keep reading!

Collaborate on App Builder apps

You can now collaborate in the App Builder, making it possible to build, review, and improve apps together.

What’s new?

  • You can add maintainers to collaborate on an App Builder app, similar to the traditional way of developing VIKTOR apps.
  • Code revisions and conversation history is visible to all collaborators
  • When someone is editing an app, the App Builder is locked to prevent conflicting edits

Visit the documentation to see how you can add maintainers to your apps.

Python 3.14 is now supported

You can now use Python 3.14 in VIKTOR!

What’s new?

  • Improved performance and clearer error messages
  • Better foundations for concurrency and scalable workflows

What does this mean for you?

  • Write cleaner, more maintainable code
  • Benefit from performance improvements out of the box
  • Start using modern Python features without waiting

*Python 3.14 is only available when you develop locally, and not in the App Builder.

Check out the Python release notes for more information.

Improvements to the SDK

We’ve shipped a set of small but impactful SDK improvements to make building apps faster, cleaner and more intuitive.

What’s new?

  • Improved compatibility with plotting libraries like Plotly and Bokeh through better color handling
  • Easier iteration and access for geometric objects (GeoPoint, GeoPolyline, GeoPolygon)
  • New convenience methods to open files directly from FileResource
  • FileResource can now be used directly in Image, Geometry, and PDF results

Community Spotlight

This month’s spotlight features a Steel Connection Design Assistant, built with VIKTOR by Carlos Manaia

The app helps engineers design fixed or hinged base plate connections by guiding them through all key inputs, from steel profiles and anchor configurations to concrete grade, loads, and weld details.

Based on the selected parameters, users can quickly evaluate different design options and iterate with confidence.
